Dr. Jacquelyn Adams received a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from SUNY Stony Brook in the Spring of 2011, capping off a unique and world-class education. After earning a bachelors degree from the Curtis Institute of Music (2003), a masters degree from Yale University (2005) and a D.M.A from SUNY Stony Brook (2011), Ms. Adams devoted much of 2009-2011 to teaching a Music Appreciation course at Lehman College (where she still performs with the Lehman College Faculty Woodwind Quintet) to over 150 undergrad, non-music majors. In the education process, she has studied with some of the world’s finest horn players- William Purvis, Myron Bloom, Jerome Ashby, Ann Ellsworth, Dr. William Scharnberg, Ellen Dinwiddie-Smith, Dr. Jim Irvin and Gregory Hustis.
An avid lover and promoter of chamber music, Jacquelyn was one of the four co-founders of Genghis Barbie (an all-star female horn quartet), with whom she toured and recorded the debut album “Genghis Barbie.” As a result, she had the opportunity to perform and lead masterclasses at the 2011 International Horn Symposium 43 (San Francisco), the NorthEast Horn Festival 2011 (New Hampshire), University of New Hampshire’s Summer Youth Music School (UNH, 2011), USDAN Center for the Creative and Performing Arts (NY), the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival (NYC) and other horn related events. Jacquelyn will be the featured guest artist at Canada’s Sixth “International Horn Day 2012″ in February at York University (Toronto, Canada), where she will perform and lead masterclasses at the festival and in surrounding areas.
Ms. Adams has taught french horn and trumpet privately in both New York and Texas. She has experience leading brass/mixed ensembles and has conducted the SUNY Stony Brook undergrad orchestra, for which she was the orchestral teaching assistant. Jacquelyn has been featured in various brass ensembles, brass quintets, woodwind quintets, horn quartets, mixed ensembles, electro-acoustic chamber ensembles and rock bands. She also composes and performs her own music.
